Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun state, has formally thrown his weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

Adeleke described the endorsement as a “moral and development-driven” decision in the best interest of Osun state and the Yoruba people.

Speaking after inspecting ongoing work on the Ibadan-Ile Ife-Ilesa expressway, the governor said he had no hesitation supporting Tinubu, whom he described as “our own son, father and leader”.

“As governor of the ancestral birthplace of Mr President, how can I have my own in the saddle and think twice before embracing him?” the governor asked

Adeleke said he considers himself privileged, alongside Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, to have an “illustrious son” of the Yoruba stock at the helm of national affairs.

The governor framed his position as transcending partisan politics and rooted in gratitude for federal projects in the state.

He praised the speed and quality of work on the Ibadan-Ile Ife-Ilesa expressway, saying it would ease access to major towns in Osun and complement his administration’s infrastructure efforts.

Adeleke said his government has rehabilitated several federal roads since 2022 and reconstructed over 300 kilometres of state roads.

He expressed hope that the federal government would soon refund the state for the federal roads repaired and announced plans to request approval for the reconstruction of the Osogbo-Ilesa road.

Adeleke also commended the president for approving the Ibadan-Iwo-Osogbo and Gbongan-Akoda roads.

“With God and people, democracy shall triumph on August 15. President has repeatedly advocated free and fair elections,” Adeleke said.

"As a government, we will deploy all means within the law to ensure free and fair election on August 15 and beyond. We know and believe the President meant well for Osun state.”
