The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged the Federal Government to focus more on preventing kidnappings than celebrating the rescue of victims.

The party said the true measure of success in tackling insecurity is ensuring that Nigerians can live, travel and attend school without fear.

The opposition party, while welcoming the recent rescue of pupils, teachers and other victims abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State after 56 days in captivity, said the same level of urgency should be extended to securing the release of other Nigerians still being held by kidnappers in parts of the country.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the party maintained that although the rescue operation was commendable, government efforts should be directed primarily at preventing abductions from occurring rather than responding after criminals have struck.

According to the ADC, the real test of the nation's security architecture is whether citizens can go about their daily activities without the constant threat of kidnapping and violent attacks.

The party also called for intensified efforts to secure the release of schoolchildren and other victims reportedly still in captivity in Borno and Kaiama in Kwara State, insisting that every Nigerian deserves equal protection regardless of location.

ADC urged the Federal Government to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve preventive security measures and adopt proactive strategies capable of dismantling criminal networks before they carry out attacks.

The party reiterated that while successful rescue operations provide relief to affected families, lasting victory against insecurity would only be achieved through effective prevention, rapid intelligence sharing and sustained efforts to protect lives and property across the country.
