Adamawa LG Chairman Dies 18 Months After Predecessor’s Death
The Executive Chairman of Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Dr. Yahaya Sa’idu, has died after a brief illness, 18 months after his predecessor, Hon. Shaibu Basbas, also died while in office.
Sa’idu reportedly died at a hospital in Kaduna at about 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026.
The Information Officer of Fufore Local Government Council, Ahmed B. Yusha’u, announced the death in a statement made available to journalists on Saturday.
Yusha’u said further details regarding the funeral arrangements would be communicated to the public in due course.
The death has thrown the local government and the wider Adamawa State community into mourning, with condolences pouring in for the deceased’s family, associates and the people of Fufore.
Former Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly and Senator representing Adamawa Central Senatorial District, Aminu Iya Abbas, expressed shock over the development.
In a condolence message shared on his WhatsApp handle on Saturday, Abbas described the late chairman as a dedicated and industrious leader whose contributions to the development of Fufore and Adamawa State would be greatly missed.
“Dr. Yahaya Saidu was a committed leader who gave his best in service to his people. My heart goes out to his family, friends, associates, and the good people of Fufore Local Government Area during this very difficult time,” the senator said.
He also prayed Allah to grant the bereaved family and the entire community the strength, patience and fortitude to bear the loss.
Sa’idu’s death comes about 18 months after Basbas, who previously headed the council, died while serving as chairman, marking another loss of a sitting local government leader in the area.
