Former Governor of Ogun state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has described the appointment of Usman Mohammed Shanawa led governing council for the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta, Ogun State has a fulfillment of one of the innermost desires of stakeholders from Ogun State.

Senator Amosun, the sponsor of the bill for the establishment of the University who represented Ogun Central Senatorial District during the 9th Assembly said this in ‘a big thank you to our President’ message on Friday.

Amosun revealed that like many of the stakeholders particularly in Ogun Central, he feels most fulfilled with the positive development.

“The announcement, yesterday, of the Usman Mohammed Shanawa led Governing Council for the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta, Ogun State has completed and fulfilled one of the innermost desires of Stakeholders from Ogun State, Ogun Central Senatorial District, particularly Abeokuta which I had the honour and privilege to serve as Governor (2011-2019) & Senator between 2003-2007 and 2019-2023.

“Therefore, with a sense of humility, like many others, I feel most certainly fulfilled with this positive development.

“I use this medium to sincerely thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR for this definitive and conclusive step of appointing a Governing Council to steer the affairs of the new University.”

Amosun also thanked former President Muhammadu Buhari for assenting to the bill, and the leadership of the 9th Assembly for selflessly making the aspiration a reality.

While also commending the former Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, Amosun also congratulated all Ogun indigenes and particularly the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba (Dr.) Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo for the development.

“My gratitude also goes to the immediate past President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR for graciously assenting to the bill establishing the university. “I commend the 9th National Assembly for the important work on this legacy educational institution. Particular mention must be made of Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, GCON, President of the 9th Senate and Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, CFR, Speaker, 9th House of Representatives.

“I thank them for their selflessness for making the aspirations of our people become a reality.

“I must also recognize and mention the invaluable support of former Hon. Minister of Finance, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed.

“Congratulations to all Ogun State, Ogun Central Senatorial District stakeholders and leaders’ including all our Kabiyesis’, particularly the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba (Dr.) Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, CFR and everyone who worked hard to accomplish this noble legacy educational project,” Amosun said.
