Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday appeared before the presidential screening committee of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The screening exercise took place at Transcorp Hilton Abuja, where Atiku, regarded as one of the leading aspirants for the party’s presidential ticket, arrived alongside notable political allies.
Among those who accompanied him were Aminu Tambuwal, former Sokoto State governor; Emeka Ihedioha, former Imo State governor; and Abubakar Malami, former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
Atiku completed the screening process, a key requirement ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for May 25, 2026.
The screening committee is chaired by Liyel Imoke, who is overseeing the exercise as the ADC moves to conclude internal processes ahead of the next election cycle.
The development comes days after reports of a postponement of the screening exercise, which party officials attributed to logistical and security considerations.
Earlier speculation surrounding Atiku’s health had also been dismissed by his camp.
Atiku formally joined the ADC late last year and has since intensified political consultations and coalition-building efforts as opposition figures continue discussions ahead of the general elections.
Further details on the outcome of the screening exercise is expected in the coming days.
