Some presidential aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by former Senate President, Bukola Saraki are currently meeting with Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa on the need to forge unity in the party ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
Saraki, who was accompanied by Governor Aminu Tambuwal, Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum; Bala Mohammed, Bauchi State Governor and Muhammed Hayatudeen are also expected to meet with the governors of Akwa Ibom and Rivers state.
A credible source who disclosed this to DAILY INDEPENDENT said the essence of the meeting with the governors and other leaders is to ensure that the party presents a consensus candidate and that there will be no crisis in the party on the issue of who becomes the party’s flagbearer.
"The initiative to build consensus and to ensure whoever emerges winner is acceptable to all and sundry. They are also working to prevent rancour within the PDP on the issue of presidential flagbearer" he said.
