2023 Presidency: Tinubu meets Obasanjo behind closed doors, keeps mum

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the residential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Wednesday met former President Olusegun Obasanjo behind closed-doors ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Tinubu arrived the Penthouse Abeokuta home of the former President at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in the afternoon was welcomed amid funfair by hundreds of his supporters and members of the APC who turned Obasanjo's home to a campaign ground of sort.

The APC Chairman in Ogun, Chief Yemi Sanusi, had earlier sent a message out to some party leaders to be on hand to welcome the former State Governor who was visiting Ogun State for the first time after emerging the candidate of the Party.

He was in the state during the campaign tour of states where he ‘dropped’ the now-viral 'Emilokan, E gbe kiniyi wa' (It is my turn, bring this thing) slogan.

He also took a swipe against Governor Dapo Abiodun who was then supporting the aspiration of the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, by calling him ‘Eleyi’ (This one).

Eleyi has also become the appellation with which people now refer to Governor Abiodun. He was publicly acknowledged as the ‘Eleyi of Ogun State’ during the governorship campaign in Ekiti State by Governor Kayode Fayemi.

Asiwaju was in the State with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila; Former National Chairman of APC, Chief Bisi Akande and the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.

The team was received by Governor Abiodun; the national leader of the Party, Chief Olusegun Osoba; his successor, the former Governor and Ogun East Senatorial Candidate of the APC, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, his predecessor, Segun Osoba and other Ogun government functionaries.

Tinubu immediately went into a closed-door meeting with Obasanjo.

Details of the meeting which lasted for almost two hours, was however not made known to journalists has Tinubu refused to speak to journalists who approached him after the meeting.

The former Lagos state governor and members of his entourage immediately boarded a waiting bus and zoomed off.

Tinubu and members of his entourage later attended the 2022 artisans' day, held at the MKO Abiola Stadium.

Addressing his supporters and members of the APC at the event, Tinubu said, "We love what the governor is doing and we are glad with all the support you have given him. Campaign has not started yet, I'm just here to greet you, thank you and God bless you. God bless Ogun state, God bless Nigeria, God bless your children. Thank you."
